Why do you create montage video? To capture moments with your photos or on videos?

To remember the joy of that moment.

Video gives a different emotion to still images because they capture the essense of action.

When you create a montage video for a birthday celebration or sorting photos from your holiday trip, or for your parents anniversary, choose the images that tell a story.

Ask yourself what story do you want to tell?

And tell your story to highlight achievements and growth in your journey.

What you really want to capture in the videos is the essence of your life.

This is the story you must tell in your montage video.

Your Story of Life!

How to Arrange and Organise your Photos for a Montage Video

Arrange your photos in a way you would like your story to be told. You can include short videos and special text messages. Even a short video message would be greate and its personal.

The list below will help you choose and arrange your photos.

  1. Have your favourite photos in an order you would like them to be seen on screen. Think of them like book chapters of Birth, Childhood, Teenager Years, Young Adult, Wedding etc …;
  2. Length of Slideshow – If it is for home viewing, it can go as long as you like. But if you show it at an event, eg. Birthday Party or Wedding Reception, Anniversary Celebration, you might like to consider having it no longer than 15 minutes or shorter;
  3. Give each photo a number with labels on the back of your photos. Whether printed original or digital, give a number starting from 01, 02, 03 etc … If you need to insert a photo in between another photo eg. 03 and 04, just number it as 03a, 03b etc … The original photo can be placed in a pocket album or ziplog bag and digital photos onto usb;
  4. Choose your favourite song, each photo around 4 to 6 seconds, depending on the special effects used and synchronize it to your songs or fade off the music.

Once you have chosen your photos and video clips, then organise them accordingly.

Creating Your Montage Video

First you will need to understand the difference between a basic slideshow and a professionally done slideshow. You can create a simple basic slideshow using free softwares available or you can hire a professional to help you save some time.

Once you understand and know what you want to create, you can then decide if you have the time to create the video on your own or hire a professional to help you save time.
